Labour is deeply concerned about recent cuts to our local NHS services, our fire crews, leisure facilities, our threatened bus services and the terrible train service through Elstree & Borehamwood station. There is also an acute shortage of affordable housing for local people. We will oppose any proposals to extend the disastrous container homes project to Borehamwood Kenilworth and will prioritise affordable and social housing using the hundreds of decent empty homes in the area. We know that many residents are sick of being treated like Hertsmere’s poor relation, paying the maximum council tax increase as local services are cut.
But Labour is also about hope: We will bring improvements using the Community Infrastructure Levy paid by developers.
NEW GP SURGERY & IMPROVED NHS
The Tories promised a new doctors' surgery. It never happened. Labour will deliver it. We will re-open local health services to improve social care, especially for older people.
Decent, genuinely affordable homes for
local people. End container homes. Up to 600 new homes have been proposed for Kenilworth. Council plans for additional school, transport, health & police services are weak. I will work to ensure they receive investment.
NEW YOUTH CLUB FOR BOREHAMWOOD
Our young people have been neglected. We will embrace and empower them. We will open a new youth centre. We will give them hope.
IMPROVE OUR ROADS, PARKING & TRANSPORT
We will work with residents, businesses and local enforcement services to improve residents parking, roads and pavements. Public transport will receive new investment.
ALLOW LOCAL BUSINESSES TO THRIVE
The Conservatives have increased local business rents by 120%, forcing closures. I believe small businesses are the powerhouse of our local economy. We will end rent hikes.
PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT
I will protect our trees and green spaces. I will demand that filling the 503 empty homes in Hertsmere is prioritised before developing on our Green Belt.
